Recently, in class, we had a geologist come in to speak with us. He was a graduate student from rutgers university.He said he worked in Egypt and found fossils such as trylobytes. He said they could be used to determine the ages of the rocks.He spoke to us about the four basic laws of geology. The four laws were: the law of superposition, the law of Uniformitarianism, the law of original horizontal, and the law of cross-cutting. we did activites to identify how the rock had been formed and how old they were.

The law of superposition states that the rock on top is older than the rock on the bottom. This law applies to basic rocks. The law of uniformitarianism states that if erosion occours now, it must have occoured in the past too. The law of original horizontal states that rocks are piled up horizontally. Finally, The law of cross-cutting states that the layer of rock that is being cut is older than the layer cutting. These are the four basic laws of geology.
